The 7 Best Museums in Chicago
"The Field Museum has spent over 100 years curating and adding to its collections, so you know their selection and breadth of artifacts and objects is impressive. Some of the highlights of their collection include SUE, the famous T-Rex (the most complete skeleton of her species), the notorious Tsavo Lions, an extensive collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts, a beautiful selection of gemstones and minerals, and the fun “Underground Adventure” exhibit."
"The Field Museum of Natural History, better known as The Field Museum, is one of the most beautiful places to explore Chicago. Located in Grant Park, it features pieces that tell the history of humankind in all ages, from the era of dinosaurs. It is a different, exciting, and realistic place, ideal for those who want to learn more about other civilizations."

Massive columns and striking galleries filled with natural light help kids feel the history and you're immediately greeted by two massive elephants and Maximo the Titanosaur."
"Located in the same lakeshore Museum Campus as the Field Museum, the John G. Shedd Aquarium is home to more than 1,500 species of sea life, including 32,500 fish, as well as an array of birds, insects and amphibians. Completed in 1930, the aquarium gets more than two million visitors each year, making it one of the most-visited aquarium in the United States. Exhibits are organized in themed areas such as the “Caribbean Reef” and the award-winning “Amazon Rising.” The Oceanarium, which features dolphins and beluga whales, is one of the aquarium’s most popular exhibits."
"The Shedd is dedicated to "engaging, inspiring, entertaining and informing" the public about the life in oceans and waterways. You're in a building on Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago, but you are immersed in a world of coral reefs, rainforests, and the Pacific Northwest coast. The Shedd, on the Museum Campus northeast of Soldier Field, prides itself on its dedication to conservation and the protection of wildlife habitats."
"Many of these great kid friendly attractions are available on the Go Chicago® Card. Choose as you go from dozens of top Chicago attractions and save up to 55% off combined admission vs paying at the gate. Or, build your own pass and save up to 25% off."
"There are plenty of other attractions from Navy Pier included on this list, but we would be remiss if we didn’t include the Ferris Wheel. At 200-feet high, the Centennial Wheel offers 360-degree views and enclosed gondolas, making it a child favorite no matter the season. "Celebrate the maritime pride of Chicago at this landmark pier on Lake Michigan. Featuring fun things to do all year long, enjoy waterfront attractions, sightseeing cruises, art, theater, and the Centennial Wheel. Category: Activities, Attractions, Family / Kids"
"The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is a modern art museum in Chicago's Ukrainian village. The UIMA, founded in 1971, hosts exhibits, book readings, film screenings, recitals, and theater. The UIMA has been a fixture in its neighborhood for more than 40 years and is one of 25 members of the Chicago Cultural Alliance."
"After a long day in the sun at 31st Street Beach, head over the the bustling deck at Pier 31 Restaurant—open every day from lunchtime onward—for dinner, drinks and live music performances. The waterfront views are the real star here, of course, but the deck also boasts impressive glimpses of the skyline."
"Stereo Nightclub is a modish establishment with vibrant interior decor, marble-topped bars, a raised Dj platform, and a lively atmosphere. It is located in a chilled avenue in Chicago, Illinois. This place is ideal for group dancing since it has a large stage away from the lounge and bar."
"Restaurants Mexican Lower West Side. Named after a bygone lumberyard in the area, Pilsen Yards replaces Monnie Burke's with a casual, music-fueled concept that specializes in tacos and other Mexican eats plus a long list of cocktails and beer. Guests can plan their visit around a jam-packed calendar of live DJs and art shows that promise to grace the space all year."
"When Pilsen restaurant Monnie Burke's closed last year, its owners weren't quite ready to leave the neighborhood. That's why they put their heads together and conceived Pilsen Yards—a new Mexican casual fare restaurant that's built for outdoor winter dining. In addition to bites like ceviche and carne asada and an exquisite cocktail menu, Pilsen Yards boasted a beautiful patio complete with a firepit and radiant-heat concrete floor."
"What:An airy neighborhood hangout with a Mexican-ish menu and plenty of drinksWhy:Think piña colada ceviche, asada and frites, and $8 house margs.Where:1163 W. 18th St., Pilsen Website"
"Chef Andrew Zimmerman's Mad Men-style outfit is like the younger sister to Sepia, his popular upscale restaurant next door. The varied menu reads like an Asian hawker market, showing off Zimmerman's global street food influences: coal-roasted mussels with 'nduja butter, grilled young chicken with tamarind chili sauce, or pork belly-shrimp stuffed, crispy Vietnamese crepe. The smorgasbord of flavors and preparations range from Indian and Mediterranean to Thai and Mexican."
"Chef Andrew Zimmerman’s menu at Proxi blends borders and pulls from every corner of the globe, so it's no surprise that pastry chef Sarah Mispagel's desserts follow suit. Try black raspberry kulfi (a play on an Indian dessert) or down spoonfuls of chocolate custard with Vietnamese coffee. But our favorite dessert of all is the tres leches cake, a cube of dense, milk-laden pastry showered in strawberries, shards of meringue and bits of caramelized goat’s milk."
"Proxi’s chef Andrew Zimmerman aims to provide refined options inspired by street food from around the globe. The result is some of the best food in Chicago!. I love this spot for date night because it offers a few seating options."
"Adding to the fun vibe in the West Loop is the new(ish) Nobu Hotel from partners Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert de Niro and Meir Teper. Up on the 11th floor, The Rooftop at Nobu will be your go-to place this summer for Japanese-influenced small plates, like Nori Tuna Tacos, Black Cod Lettuce Cups, Wagyu Dumplings, and Rock Shrimp Tempura. Fancy a Lychee Martini?"
"Try as I might, I haven’t found a place to top this one no matter which of the best places to eat in Chicago we dine at. Mortal and Pestle is a classic, hipstery, modern-looking restaurant with big windows perfect for people watching. Last time I was there, I felt comfortable seated in the window seats watching the world go by."
"I’ll admit, I haven’t been here yet – but I keep hearing that it’s amazing!. The menu looks super inventive, too. Where else can you find Alaskan King Crab Benedict and Fois Gras + Eggs with truffles?"
"Chicago’s Lakefront Trail I promised we’d do a lot of walking today, so next, head back towards Lake Michigan and enjoy the lakefront trail, a nearly 20-mile stretch of paved walkway that meanders down the city’s coastline. The views are spectacular and it’s a great way to see the city’s skyline from a distance. If you’d prefer to bike the trail (highly recommended!), check out the city’s bike-sharing system, Divvy, where you can grab a bike for a 24-hour rental period from one of the city’s many stations"
