Famous Atlanta Restaurants
"Murphy’s has been serving brunch to hungover Atlantans for more than 30 years. They didn’t take reservations for brunch before the pandemic, but they do now. They also offer brunch to-go, which means there’s no excuse not to get your fill of their malted waffle or breakfast croissant sandwich."
"With 30 years in business, this Buckhead Life Group restaurant has graduated to old-guard status, but is still high on the list in terms of ATL favorites and is still the spot to beat on various local and national food awards lists. Sure, their penchant for showing off celebrity photos on the website is a bit cheesy, but not as deliciously so as their lasagna espressa with veal Bolognese, local wild mushrooms, and Parmigiano-Reggiano bechamel. They’re also famous for their linguini frutti di mare, but if you’re feeling ritzy you can get the $100/person five-course wine dinner, or go adventurous on the October regional menu, where you can order serious plates like slow-braised wild boar in Sangiovese wine with pappardelle pasta, or the Agnello 3 Volte (“The Three Ways of Lamb”), which is braised lamb cheeks, a grilled lamb chop, and house lamb sausage."

"Testuko Nakato opened her eponymous Japanese restaurant nearly 50 years ago in Atlanta, now located on Cheshire Bridge Road. Still owned and operated by the family, the iconic restaurant offers traditional Japanese fare served in tatami rooms with low platform tables as well as hibachi-style dining and sushi via its sushi bar. Nakato just received a $40,000 historic preservation grant meant to preserve historic and culturally significant minority-owned businesses disproportionally impacted by the pandemic."
"The longest-running Asian restaurant on this list is probably the most treasured, having called Buckhead home for more than 45 years. With celebrated sushi, high-flying hibachi, omakase and private tatami dining, Nakato is the authentic Asian experience in ATL."
"Just celebrating their 25th anniversary, this bakery (with a Va-Hi and Dunwoody location) keeps customers coming back year after year for a taste of the delicious selections. Known for its high-quality, made-from-scratch collection of baked goods, cakes, pastries, gourmet sandwiches, freshly prepared foods, fine cheeses, chocolates and more, the eatery is an Atlanta gem."
"This small European market contains a grocery section, deli, and prepared foods counter, but Alon’s shining glory is their bakery. Their pastry case holds some of the most dazzling desserts you’ve ever seen. In fact, compared to some of their other options, the Opera Cake may appear unassuming, but it packs a mouthful of taste."
"Alon’s markets haven’t skipped a beat after transitioning to takeout and delivery via UberEats. Both the Morningside and Dunwoody locations offer full take-out menus ready for curbside pick-up, including Alon’s extensive selection of desserts. Pre-order Passover and Easter desserts here, too."
"My Midtown food recommendations aren’t as numerous because there aren’t as many casual restaurants in those areas. There are more high end and up and coming pricier ones. DaVinci’s Pizzeria in Midtown is very different from the typical Midtown restaurant."
"Located in Inman Park and translating to ‘heart, captured’ in Farsi, Delbar, a Middle Eastern restaurant and bar that opened last summer, delivers a menu of classic Persian cuisine with Israeli, Turkish and Lebanese touches. The restaurant’s expansive outdoor patio (seen in photo above) seamlessly carries the open and natural interior to the outside. Seating in this area is first come, first served."
"Inman ParkLocated close to, but far enough away from, the hustle and bustle of Inman Park's main drag, is Delbar. The recently opened Persian restaurant has a covered patio set below the street so it feels nice and quiet. Open for dinner daily and for lunch on weekends."
"6115 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd Suite 125, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 | (678) 395-6738. A new Atlanta restaurant opened at Perimeter Town Center in Sandy Springs in mid-2019. The restaurant marks Primo Hoagies’ inaugural entry into the metro Atlanta market."
"Although it’s been more than 150 years since the Civil War ended, and a woman holds the second-highest office in the land, the history lessons taught in school still predominantly derive from the perspective of white European males, beginning with Christopher Columbus. But just down Auburn Ave from The King Center, the APEX Museum is dedicated to emphasizing the contributions that Black Americans have made throughout history by telling our nation’s story from their eyes. Dive into the horrifying realities of the African Holocaust during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, discover Atlanta’s first African American-owned businesses, admire the accomplishments of chemist Alice Ball, and so much more when you visit APEX."
"The African-American Panoramic Experience Museum shares the story of African and African-American history and culture. There are different exhibits, artifacts, and presentations across many different eras in history. You’ll find things that date back to ancient African civilizations back to 5500 B.C."
"There are some incredible stories and exhibits on offer at the APEX. This Sweet Auburn gem is a museum of history presented from the black perspective. Established in 1978, there’s a lot of history that goes beyond its opening that’s packed in this small, but super important museum."
"The Museum of Contemporary Art, Georgia (MOCA GA), focuses on works by artists with strong links to the region. Since its opening in 2002, the museum has developed a strong reputation for the exhibition of contemporary art of the highest quality, establishing itself as one of the leading visual arts galleries Georgia. MOCA GA usually holds around ten dynamic and challenging temporary exhibitions per year by Georgia-based and international artists."
"If you’re a lover of the contemporary art, you have to check Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia!. This museum houses pieces from local artists in Georgia, to artists from around the world. It was founded in 2000 and has grown from 250 works by 110 Georgia artists to now 1,300 works of art."
"Obligatory if you’re in Atlanta with kids, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History creates moments of wonder with its dinosaur skeletons, immersive encounters, hundreds of hands-on activities, fossils, life-sized whale replicas, five-storey 4K theatre and 65 acres of mature forest. “A Walk Through Time in Georgia” is a handy introduction to the state’s natural history, through 15 galleries using geological and fossil records to show what the landscape would have looked like over millions of years. Youngsters are sure to love the life-sizes bronze statues of dinosaurs outside at “Dinosaur Plaza”, and at “Giants of the Mesozoic” in the Great Hall you’ll be met by argentinosaurus, the largest dinosaur ever recorded, facing off against a 14.3-metre-long giganotosaurus."
"Fernbank Museum of Natural History is the city’s answer to New York’s renowned treasure trove. But unlike NYC’s Museum of Natural History, this facility lets your little ones learn in the outdoors. This attraction lets your kids experience a variety of fun experiences, like looping around the Dinosaur Plaza."
"767 Clifton RdAtlanta, GA 30307, United States(404) 929-6300. Officially opened in 1992, Fernbank Museum of Natural History is home to science and history."
